It was a combination of reggaeton and pop that was not just a new ear to reggaeton, but an increase in interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs in Spanish mainly, and four others in the year 2016. At the height of Despacito's popularity, 19 tracks mainly in Spanish made it to the Billboard Top 100. By 2020 it will be 41 tracks in this category. Justin Bieber's bilingual remix Despacito was released in 2017. After that, well-known artistes began to collaborate with reggaeton musicians. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) in addition to Madonna has collaborated with Maluma in Medellin. In the years 2020, many Reggaeton performers were complaining about the direction of the genre towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation, Rauw Alejandro was determined to continue the evolution. In his music, he often used elements from electronic dance music as well as other types.
